GREECE, Vº SEC. B.C. - The Corinthian helmet was the most popular style of helmet used by Hoplites citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states. The transverse crest version, the most unusual and specific of the crests, originally evolved as a distinctively Spartan crest to be worn only by the upper echelon of the army along about 450-440 B.C.
